Glossary
Access key
Secret engk_… bearer credential used by a trusted backend and scoped to one environment and selected apps.
App
One platform application inside an environment. It owns a public SDK app key and provider configuration.
App key
Public eng_app_… identifier used to bootstrap a mobile installation. It is not a server credential.
Audience
Structured expression selecting profiles/installations from attributes, tags, events, subscriptions, segments, app/platform, and other supported facts.
Binding code
Short-lived opaque code issued by an SDK and committed by a trusted backend to bind an installation to an external identity.
Delivery
One provider-bound attempt for one eligible installation. Distinct from a campaign or transactional request.
DivKit
Server-driven UI schema and native renderer used internally for in-app and Message Center content. The host receives documents rather than compiled generated UI.
Environment
Isolation boundary for audience data, content, credentials, API keys, delivery, analytics, quotas, and operations.
Event
Durable product fact tracked by an SDK. Events feed analytics, segments, automations, conversion, experiments, and local triggers.
Experience
Published in-app content plus audience, triggers, schedule, display policy, variants, presentation, and conversion configuration.
External ID
Stable user identity from the customer’s backend, attached to an Engage profile through server-mediated binding.
Feature flag
Published typed value with audience, target apps, deterministic variants, revision, and optional conversion event.
Generation
Monotonic installation identity boundary. Operations from an old account generation cannot be silently applied after an identity transition.
Installation
One installed copy of one app, with server ID, device metadata, local durable state, push state, installation attributes, and subscriptions.
Message Center entry
Durable inbox record containing immutable summary/detail rendering snapshots and read/delete state.
Placement
Stable application UI slot identified by a key and populated by an eligible embedded in-app experience.
Profile
Person-level entity that may own multiple installations and contains identities, attributes, tags, subscriptions, events, and audience memberships.
Provider acceptance
FCM/APNs acknowledged an Engage request. It is not proof of device delivery or display.
Segment
Saved and evaluated audience expression with membership transitions and reusable targeting.
Subscription list
Named consent/preference category scoped to installation/profile and one or more channels.
Transactional template
Published server-callable push definition with stable key, typed variables, localized content, app scope, delivery policy, and idempotency.
